Read More	From Columbus Telegram, August 26, 1918 DAVID L . BRUEN, PROMINENT IN COUNTY POLITICS, DIES David L. Bruen, early settler and a man who had a prominent part in making democratic political history in Platte County, died at his home in Grand Prairie township, fifteen miles north of Columbus Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. He had been suffering two months with a complication of ailments, but had been bedfast only a week. Mr. Bruen enjoyed an extensive acquaintance throughout the county and was an active political leader in the community for many years. He was ever fearless in his advocacy of the principles which he believed to be right. He served fifteen years as director in school district No. 21, and more than a quarter of a century ago he represented his district eight years as a member of the county board of supervisors. He was a native of New York state where he was born May 18, 1851. There as a young man he married Miss Sarah F. Thompson. Four children were born to them, one of whom died in infancy, and three of whom are living. They are Mrs. Henry Koch, of Creston; Mrs. John Logemann, of Creston, and John Buren, residing on the home place. Mrs. Bruen passed away in 1885, and he later married Miss Ella Hoesington, in Columbus. To this union were born five children, three of whom survive their father. They are Mrs. George Freeman, of Platte Center, Mrs. Charles Esau, of College View, Nebr., and Miss Elsie Bruen, at home. Death came to their mother a year ago last January. Mr. Bruen leaves also one foster-daughter, Miss Minnie Buren. Leaving New York state in 1875, Mr. Buren located near Bloomington, Ill., where he spent several years as a foreman on a farm. In 1879 he came with his family to Columbus and in the same year he bought the farm on which he spent the remainder of his life. He made a specialty of raising fancy poultry, and developed the business on an extensive scale, but he always found time to take an active interest in the public affairs of the community.
