Description	:	Funeral rites for David William Baer, 66, familiarly known by his many friends as "Dave" were conducted this Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Pike Creek church. The Rev. Frederick Hollingshead officiated and burial was made in Pike Creek cemetery. Members of the Red Men lodge gave ritualistic services at the grave and flower bearers were members of the Pocahontas lodge. Mr. Baer died suddenly Monday evening about 9 o'clock at his home on the George Kepp farm, 4 miles northeast of town, following a cerebral hemorrhage. He had been in ill health since his first illness about a year ago but had recovered sufficiently to be up and around. He had been up as usual on Monday and was stricken fatally as he was about to retire. The body was prepared at the Prevo and Son Funeral home and returned to the family home Tuesday afternoon where it remained until the hour of the service. The son on David and Mary McKee Baer, he was born April 12, 1872, on a farm located about a mile northeast of the present home. All his life was spent in farming in this vicinity and on Feb. 19, 1896, he was married to Bessie Cornell at Idaville. The widow and the following children survive: Mrs. Mildred Hutton, Mrs. Lola Sellers, Mrs. Eva Welte, Mrs. Eileen Guthrie, Monticello; Mrs. Ruth Larson, Gary, Mrs. Imogene Guthrie Idaville; William, Monticello; Lester, Idaville; Fred F., Lake Forest, Ill. One sister, Mrs. Blanche Rasmussen, Chicago, also survives. The deceased was an active worker in the Red Men and Pocahontas lodges as long as his health would permit. He was a member of the original group known as the "Country Club" and leaves a host of friends saddened by his death. Monticello Herald - 1/9/1938
