Description	:	Day C. Norman passed away at St. Josephs hospital (sic) in Concordia, Kansas, November 13. Day and Mrs. Norman moved to Chester from Kingman, Kans. in 1911 and lived on a farm north of town for about six years. He then moved to town and went into the grocery business with J.E. Woodward. He later sold out to Mr. Woodward and was appointed Chester's first water commissioner in 1924 in which position he served till 1934. He has been deputy sheriff of Thayer county (sic) the past year. Day and Mrs. Norman moved to Chester from Kingman, Kans. in 1911 and lived on a farm north of town for about six years. He then moved to town and went into the grocery business with J.E. Woodward. He was a member of the Christian church (sic) also the Odd Fellows and Masons. ---------------------------------------------- Day C. Norman, son of John W. and Laura Day Norman, was born December 20, 1885, in Jasper County, Indiana, and departed this life at St. Joseph's Hospital, Concordia, Kansas, on November 13, 1945 at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 23 days. The early years of his life were spent in Indiana where he received the Christian training that was the foundation upon which he built his life. In 1908, he left Indiana to visit relatives in southern Kansas where he became acquainted with Miss Elizabeth M. Duey. On December 6, 1910, he and Elizabeth were united in marriage at Cleveland, Kansas. To this union were born three children, J.D. of Williamsburg, Virginia, Martha at home, and Zora Mae Messman of Chester. In 1911, Day and his wife moved to Chester where they maintained their home for the remainder of his life. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Christian Church, the I.O.O.F., A.F. and A.M. and the Modern Woodman of American lodges, all of Chester. He leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife, three children, two sisters: Mrs. Blanche Michael and Mrs. Mae Level of Rensselaer, Ind.; three brothers, Oren W. of Chester, Van A. of Rensselaer and Paul E. of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one daughter-in-law, Mary Norman and one son-in-law, Kenneth L. Messman now in Manila; two grand daughters, Betty Kay and Kathy Messman, three step grandchildren, Mildred, Jim and Ralph Norman, and a host of other relatives and friends. Day was a faithful husband, a loving father and a very devoted grandfather. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 21 in the Christian Church with the Rev. Verne L. Chapman officiating, assister (sic) by the Rev. John K. Yeoman of Leon, Kansas. Burial was in the Chester Cemetery with grave side services by the Chester I.O.O.F. Lodge.
