Willey and Eleanor Nellie (Marsh) Willey on May 14, 1918, at Grafton and passed away Aug. 18, 2004, at Wilber Care Center in Wilber at the age of 86 years, three months and four days. He was one of three children in the family. He attended kindergarten and several lower grades at Grafton before his family moved to a farm northeast of Grafton. Read More	WILLEY, DEAN WARDWELL—Dean Wardwell Willey was born to Franklin E. Willey and Eleanor Nellie (Marsh) Willey on May 14, 1918, at Grafton and passed away Aug. 18, 2004, at Wilber Care Center in Wilber at the age of 86 years, three months and four days. He was one of three children in the family. He attended kindergarten and several lower grades at Grafton before his family moved to a farm northeast of Grafton. He then attended district school, which offered classes through the tenth grade. He got his last two years of education at Fairmont, graduating in 1935. While going to high school, he worked trucking cattle to Omaha. He worked a while for West Brothers, before moving on to the firehouse crash crew at the Fairmont Army Airbase. In 1945, he was called to service and was eventually stationed in Sendia, Japan. After returning home from the Army, he worked for the Ford garage for a while before hiring on at Wilkins Steel, where he worked for 33 years. He did several different types of jobs while employed at Wilkins Steel, but enjoyed trucking steel the most. He eventually ended up in the office, working as office manager before retiring. Dean was married to LaVeta Myrl Madison of Geneva on June 9, 1944, and to them two children were born. He enjoyed making woodcrafts and sharing them with his friends. He loved fishing and camping. After retiring, he and his wife were able to enjoy the next 16 summers at Gavins Point Dam in South Dakota, doing what they enjoyed most, spending time with the many good friends that they had met over the years while fishing and camping. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, LaVeta Willey; his parents, Frank and Nellie Willey; brother, Harvey Willey; two sisters-in-law Helen Willey and Mary Ellen Willey. He is survived by a daughter, Norma Jean Willey; son and daughter-in-law Bob and Judy Willey; two grandchildren, Amanda and husband, Jarrod Neujahr; Brian Willey; brother, George Willey; nephew, Gary Willey and wife Alyce; and niece, Judy and husband, Roger Groetzinger. Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 20, from the Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Pat Kelley officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt played “Shall We Gather at the River” and “One Day at a Time.” Casket bearers were Lambert Hopken, Mel Krause, Charles Krupicka, LeRoy Rippe, and John and Don Wilkins.
