Description	:	Deddelena, daughter of Peter and Etta Hulsebus was born April 14, 1851 in Leer, Germany and died February 12, 1922, at Witten, South Dakota, at the age of 70 years, 9 months and 28 days. Sister Ruf was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in the spring of 1866 and remained a faithful member until the end. In the year of 1866 she came to America with her parents and settled in Des Moines County, Iowa, near Burlington. In 1868 she was married to Chris N. Holm. In 1878 they moved to Wayne County, where she lived until twelve years ago.... Sister Ruf was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in the spring of 1866 and remained a faithful member until the end. In the year of 1866 she came to America with her parents and settled in Des Moines County, Iowa, near Burlington. In 1868 she was married to Chris N. Holm. In 1878 they moved to Wayne County, where she lived until twelve years ago. To this union was born six children: Peter N.: Chris J.; Eno H.: Hanna I; and one little girl who died in infancy. Brother Holm the husband and father died in July 10, 1882. In September 1883 she was married to John B. Ruf, to this union was born one child, John D., who survives. Bro. Ruf the husband, and father of John D. Ruf, died Jan. 8, 1908. She leaves to mourn her loss besides her children and ten grandchildren, two brothers, Peter Hulsebus of Peoria, Ill.; Eno Hulsebus of Burlington, Iowa, and three sisters; Mrs. Etta Schmidt of Peoria, Ill.: Mrs. Bendina Gerdes of Attica, Kansas and Mrs. George Binau of Allerton, Iowa. three brothers and two sisters preceded her to the better world. Sister Ruf had been sick but a short while, and her death came as a shock to her family, as she had been up and around the day before. She lived a Christian life and her dying testimony will stand forever as a white pillar before her children and her friends. The funeral services were held at Unity Baptist Church, conducted by Mrs. A.E. Porter, pastor of the Methodist Church of Decatur City. The remains were laid to rest in Lewisburg cemetery.
