Description	:	Delbert L. Farland, 73, of Newton, a lifelong resident of Newton, died Thursday, Jan. 20, at Skiff Medical Center following a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jerome Egel, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton. Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home until 9 p.m. today and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Survivors are his wife, Billie Jean; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis and Pat and Reg, all of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Doug Smith of Newton; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Clifford L. and James L., both of Newton, and Ronn W. of Sacramento, Calif.; five sisters, Marjorie (Mrs. Norman) Kilburn of West Union, Alberta (Mrs. Gar) Doane and LaVonne (Mrs. Robert) Thorson, both of Newton, Jean (Mrs. Robert) Dillon of Marengo and Marilyn (Mrs. Richard) Greene of Las Vegas, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne. Mr. Farland was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge No. 1270, RSVP and Jasper County Historical Society. He was an employee of the Vernon Co. for 42 years, serving as inventory control manager prior to his retirement. The son of Harold S. and Hazel M. Horn Farland, he was born April 20, 1920 in Killduff and was a 1938 graduate of Newton Community High School. He was married to Billie Jean Greene Oct. 16, 1943 in Newton.
