Prosser Funeral Home Delbert Richman, age 85 of Prosser, entered into rest on September 26, 2007 at his home. He was born on July 3, 1922 to Frank and Mary (Gilmore) Richman on a homestead south of Kennewick. He attended school in Benton City and Prosser. Delbert served in World War II as a medic in the U.S. Army. He was discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant also with a promise to be trained as a medic. After returning from the states to France to begin training, he was sent home untrained due to a mix up in orders. In 1953, Delbert married Elvree Alderman in Pasco, Washington. After the ceremony, he returned to Benton City and told all the kids that he not only married Elvree but married them too. Delbert was very much a family man and was loved by all. Even though he didn't finish high school, Delbert had volumes of information. He was an avid reader, especially anything pertaining to the Bible, news and sports. He also enjoyed television game shows, news shows, sports, hunting, playing solitaire and soap operas, though he'd never admit it. He was a founding member of the Prosser VFW Post 3207 and a long standing member of the American Legion in Benton City. Delbert worked for Carl, Henry and Elmer Smith for over sixty years. In 1957, the Smith's bought Triple S Farms and asked Delbert to move on the farm. So Delbert moved his family to Horse Heaven where they resided for 47 years. Delbert farmed Triple S Farms as if it were his own. After his retirement, he loved driving the roads of the Horse Heaven Hills and out to the farm to see if the boys were taking care of it. Delbert was preceded in death by his wife, Elvree; sons, Monty Dickinson and Jack Howard; parents, Frank and Mary Richman; brothers, Fred, Earl and LaVern; and sisters, Audree Meabon and Hazel Lawrence. He is survived by his youngest sister, Betty Meyer and her daughter, Jean of Tucson, AZ; daughters, Cookie Maples of Prosser and Janet Kime and husband Bud of Kennewick; daughterin-law, Shari Gump and husband Steve of San Diego, CA; granddaughter, April Wheeler and her children, Sundae, Amber and Jake of Billings, MT; grandson, Harley Grinder of Benton City and his daughter, Marissa of Olympia; granddaughter, Renee Howard of Portland; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Delbert's Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Prosser. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Delbert's memory to the Calvary Baptist Church in Prosser or to Lower Valley Hospice c/o Prosser Funeral Home & Crematory.
