Della Hilda Breitag, daughter of Mary (Potratz) and Otto Breitag, was born on her parents' farm five miles west of Leola on Oct. 22, 1914. This is where she was raised and attended rural school. Following her schooling, she moved to Aberdeen and worked as a hired girl. She married Edmund Nusz Oct. 10, 1937, at Leola. They lived and farmed five miles north of Selby. Edmund died Nov. 29, 1984. Della remained on the farm with her son, Norlyn. Following his death in November 1995, Della moved to an apartment in Java. May 2001, she moved into assisted living at the Selby Good Samaritan Center and since June 2004 had lived at the nursing home. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Many people looked forward to being given Della's bread that she made from scratch and drinking her coffee that she made with eggs. When family visited, Della customarily treated them to her baked chicken. She kept up on current events and enjoyed politics. She also did a lot of canning and loved dancing. She took pride in the farm, loved the cattle, and enjoyed watching Norlyn farm. Della is survived by one daughter, Diane D. Sauer of Fargo, N.D.; two grandchildren, Rodney S. Sauer and Jodi Lynn Sauer; and two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Logan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, three sisters (Clara Guthmiller, Alma Hoffman, and Anna Krein), seven brothers (Albert, Gerhardt, Reuben, Gregor, Herbert, Arthur, and Irvin), and three infant great-grandchildren. Casketbearers will be Melvin Breitag of Watertown, Oscar Prasek Jr. and Skip Rau of Selby, Lloyd Breitag of Leola, Bernard Krein of Aberdeen, and Jeff Guthmiller of Mobridge. Miller Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements. Published in the Aberdeen News on 12/7/2005.
