Highland Recorder November 7, 1919 Hevener -Hofsess On Thursday, October 10, at 4 o'clock, at the family home south of, Hume, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Hofsess gave in marriage their daughter, Miss Mae, to Mr. R. W. Hevener, of Hightown, Virginia. Rev. J. F. Scott, of the M.E. Church, South, conducted the ceremony. It was a very pretty home wedding, only immediate relatives of the family being present as follows; Rev. J. F. and Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Jake Maurer and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Wllliams, Mr. and Mrs G. W, Baton and daughter, Vae, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Thompson, Claude B. J. Thompson and family, Lee Hofsess and family, J. B. Caldwell and family The home was very artistically decorated with autumn leaves and golden rod. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Jake Maurer, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, sang very effectively the beautiful old ballad, "Promise Me" Mrs. Edna Z. Williams, cousin of the bride, played the. wedding ,march. After dainty refreshments had been served, the happy couple, amid a shower of rice, immediately departed for Fort Scott where they took the train for points in Western Kansas to visit her brothers. They expect to make a brief visit here upon their return, after which they will go to Hightown, Virginia, their future home. Their honeymoon will extend to Washington, D. C., Newark, N.J., and New York City, where they will visit with his relatives. The bride is a young lady of sunny disposition and fine Christian character, and will be greatly missed from the community, both in church life and social circles. The groom comes from a splendid old Virginia family, and is engaging in farming, a young man of integrity, standing well before the people of his country. They have the best wishes of all in their new relation for a long and prosperous wedding life. The above was taken from the bride's home paper. Highland Recorder January 9, 1953 Mrs R. W. Hevener Dies Mae Hofess Hevener, 65, died suddenly of a heart attack last Thursday January 1, 1953 at her home in Hightown. Va. Widow or the late County, Treasurer. R. W. Hevener. who died two and half years ago, she had made her home in Highland, following her marriage. Prior to this she had visited her cousins, Mrs. J.C Matheny and Mrs. R. C. Jones in Monterey. She was born, reared and educated in the state of Missouri in Hume. Mrs. Hevener was active in church, social and civic circles, having served as officer in the Lexington Presbyterian, president of the Garden Club and repeatedly, had been selected as chairman on important civic committees, a very talented young woman, she will be missed in many respects in her adopted county. Survivors Include her mother-in-law Mrs. J. W. Hevener; two sons Richard W. Hevener, Jr., Cincinnati. Ohio and Jacob Hofsess Hevener, Monterey; one daughter Miss Charlotte Ann Hevener, assistant to the county clerk, at home; four brothers, A. Lee Hofsess, Hume, Mo., Clay Hofsess, Detroit, Mich; Walter and Edward Hofsess, Kansas; two sisters, Mrs. John Adams, Hume. Mo.; Mrs. Edward Vail, Kansas and four grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the home at two o'clock Saturday afternoon by the Rev. A.E. Johnson. Interment was in the Monterey Cemetery.
