Description	:	Obituary: Della Philena Deming was born in Angelica, Allegany County, New York, January 8, 1861 and departed this life at her home in Carthage SD July 8 1939, having lived 78 years and 6 months. In 1864 she moved with her parents to Iowa. On Jan 8 1879 she married to Edward Tompkins. To this union eight children were born. Read More	Obituary: Della Philena Deming was born in Angelica, Allegany County, New York, January 8, 1861 and departed this life at her home in Carthage SD July 8 1939, having lived 78 years and 6 months. In 1864 she moved with her parents to Iowa. On Jan 8 1879 she married to Edward Tompkins. To this union eight children were born. Will and Ford of Carthage, Frank of Chester SD, Elsie Drury of St Charles ILL, Lizzie Salter and Charley of Carthage, Mabel Crandall of Nampa, Idaho and Mrs. Ethel Hanson, who preceded her in death. In 1883 they moved with their two sons onto their homestead eight miles west of Carthage. Here they resided until May 1918 when they moved to Carthage. Mr. Tompkins passed away Oct 3 1925. Mother Tompkins lived here alone until her health failed. Since then Mr. and Mrs. Ford Tompkins (Mabel Brace) moved in from their 80 acre farm west of Carthage to care for her. In 1885 she united with the Freewill Baptist Church. After coming to Carthage she joined the Christian Church and was a faithful worker in the church as long as she was physically able. She leaves to mourn her loss her seven children, 33 grand children, 35 great-grand children, 2 brothers, Will and Mark Deming of Humbolt SD and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Grandma, as she was called was a patient sufferer and had a kind loving word for everyone and will be greatly missed by her loved ones and friends.
