She was born September 22, 1890 at Chillicothe, Iowa, daughter of Dan and Elizabeth (Locke) Brackett; and passed away December 28, 1967, at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 6 days. Her early years with her parents who moved while she was a child to the Foster community and also near the Hilton church. On May 12, 1906, she was united in marriage with Jasper Barnes, and they made their home near Moravia while he worked on the railroad. To their union were born two sons: William and Cleo. When they were yet children her husband died in the flu epidemic of 1918 and a year later she married Marion McCrory and they made their home on a farm east of Moravia, until the time of his passing in 1935. She then moved into Moravia to the house that has been her home since, except for the four years that she was in Burlington during World War II, working in the arsenal there. Preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers and two sisters, a half-brother and her two husbands. Surviving to cherish her memory are her two sons, William of Albia and Cleo of Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two sisters, Lula (Mrs. Clarence) Dickey of Des Moines, and Ellen (Mrs. Allen) Kutch of New Sharon; and a number of nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends. She had a warm interest in her family and was active in the church until old age kept her closer to home, and she will be missed by all who knew her. Services were held at the Turner Funeral home on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. with Rev. T. D. Hersey bringing the message, and Grace Whitehead at the organ.
