Description	:	Delores Marie Tietz Schrader, age 80, was born on Sept. 19, 1934 in Griswold, the daughter of Alfred and Linda (Hartman) Tietz. She died on Oct. 28 in rural Villisca of injuries sustained in the ATV accident on the farm. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dennis Tietz, and her niece Sherri (Kline) Rush. She died on Oct. 28 in rural Villisca of injuries sustained in the ATV accident on the farm. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dennis Tietz, and her niece Sherri (Kline) Rush. She attended country school and graduated from Griswold High School in 1953. From there Delores attended college at Northwestern Missouri in Maryville, MO where she got her teaching certificate. She taught elementary school in Glidden, IA for one year. After some time of courting, including many trips between Glidden and Villisca, Delores Tietz became engaged to Darrell Schrader on June 10, 1955. On June 10, 1956 two lives merged when Darrell and Delores were married at the newly built St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Lyman. After the honeymoon to Colorado, Darrell and Delores made their home on the farm one mile west of the Guss church and lived there until 1985. Delores began working as a custodian with the Villisca schools in 1985, first in the Nodaway building and later in Villisca. She loved being around the kids and making friends with adults in the buildings. Darrell drove a school bus from the Villisca schools for many years until 2009. The kids and their families on his routes and sports trips enjoyed and respected Darrell. In 1987 they bought their current farm northwest of Guss. They enjoyed life in the earth home and on the farm where they could watch cattle and nature until their deaths. The lives of Darrell and Delores centered around family, the farm, hard work, and community connections. They worked hard and served others. Darrell enjoyed the farm life, horses, roller skating, playing cards, pitching horse shoes, hunting, and visiting with friends and neighbors. He was a member of Cattlemen’s Association, Watershed committee, Guss Saddle Club, and other organizations. In the early years he raised many horses, including some prized appaloosas. Later he raised ponies and gave buggy rides to many family, friends, and school kids. Darrell took pride in his cattle and his kids and grandkids. Delores was a member of UMW and the Calico Maids social club. She served as a 4-H leader for many years, taught Sunday school and Bible school for years, and always volunteered for whatever needed to be done at the church or in the community. Delores enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, and taking care of others. She was a great cook and became known for her cinnamon rolls, applesauce, dill pickles, and peanut butter balls. Doing things with their kids and grandkids was always special. Darrell Schrader, age 82, and Delores Schrader, 80, of Villisca, Iowa, entered into peace Tuesday, October 28, 2014 near their home in rural Villisca, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Frank Rogers officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 4-6 p.m., Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Guss, Iowa.
