Read More	Lifetime Resident Called by Death - D. R. Dawdy, 81, Dies Following Long Illness Jewell lost a useful and worthy citizen in the death Sunday of D. R. Dawdy. Born near Jewell, he lived the 81 years of his lifetime in this community. Mr. Dawdy lived an industrious life, even in retirement. He had many practical skills and his services were in wide demand. Mr. Dawdy was a twin. His name was Delta Roy; that of his twin brother, Della Joy. But Mr. Dawdy preferred the name of "Chug," by which he was known for most of his life and this name is engraved on the stone at his grave in the cemetery. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Christian church in Jewell. The Rev. H. H. Bussell conducted the serivce. Ira Schindler sang two numbers, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Beyond the Sunset." Mrs. Faith Kieffer was accompanist. Pallbearers were Wendell Wooster, Clifford Abram, Vernon Fedde, Roy Sluyter, Leo Bass, and Lyle Hoffer. Honorary pallbearers were C. R. Foulke, Guy Nixon, L. B. Hoel, A. C. Fedde, E. P. McIntyre, Arthur Schafer, E. N. Toyliff, and E. B. Gray. The Van Sickel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Delta Roy Dawdy Delta Roy "Chug" Dawdy, one of the twin sons was born September 14, 1881, to J. A. and Irabelle (Betts) Dawdy on the Dawdy homestaed northeast of Jewell, Kansas. He departed this life on June 9, 1963. His twin brother was named Della Joy. He spent his boyhood on his parents' farm and received his education int he Paradise rural school and in Jewell. He was converted in an evangelistic meeting conducted by Mrs. Clara Hazelrigg in the Jewell Christian church. he was married to Una May Fitch on April 11, 1906, at the home of the bride's parents. Rev. Channer of the Jewell Christian church performed the ceremony. In 1956, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and held many pleasant memories of that occasion. Two children were born to them Loren Rea Dawdy of Jewell and Florence Eloise, now Mrs. John Sodowsky of Derby, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Dawdy lived on his father's farm the first few y ears of their married life, then bought the farm 3 miles east of Jewell which was their home for 42 years. In 1950 they sold the farm and bought the home in Jewell. Chug was president of the Wallace Cemetery board for 24 years and associated with the cemetery work for a longer period. His records for all work there were accurately kept. In his father's declining years he handled all matters of business for him and was guardian of one brother's children when they were orphaned. He had a wide acquaintance in the county and was a special friend to children. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister. He is survived by his wife Una, a son Loren of Jewell, a daughter, Florence of Derby; daughter in law, Olive Dawdy of Jewell; son in law John R. Sodowsky, Derby, two granddaughters, Martha Jean Soucheck of Concordia and Kay Marie Sodowsky of Derby, two great-grandchildren, Janet and Alan Souchek; several nieces and nephews; two cousins, and many friends. - Jewell Republican. "Chug" made many friends during his life time and he retained them all. He was well and favorably known in the county and this fine man will always be remembered by his relatives and many friends.
