Description	:	Olive was born in a sod house 2 1/2 miles north of Pleasanton to Myley and Mary Reese Asher. She was much younger than her three sisters, so Mary let each girl pick a name for their new baby sister. That is why she was named Dema Rosealtha Olive Asher but she always went by Olive or Ollie. She was much younger than her three sisters, so Mary let each girl pick a name for their new baby sister. That is why she was named Dema Rosealtha Olive Asher but she always went by Olive or Ollie. Olive played basketball while in school and wore the "bloomer" uniform! She graduated tenth grade in 1914 since it would be several years before Pleasanton had twelve grades. She married Walter Phillips on May 11, 1915 in her Mother's home (June Zimmer's home) which was decorated with wild plum blossoms. The Phillips family lived in the Sunflower Community where Olive reared a family of five children while raising a big garden, milking cows, and caring for chickens. She was busy all summer canning for the winter months. During the Depression the neighbors would pack lunches and go to Frank Metz's on the river for a community picnic. Swimming, wading, playing ball, and horseshoes were some of the activities. During the winter months, the community enjoyed "Literaries" at the Sunflower school followed by games and square dancing. Walt and Olive either had company or went to relatives nearly every Sunday. Olive, after Walter's death, lived in her own home ejoying her family, garden, and flowers until her passing.
