Description	:	Dennis P. Johnson, 57, of Olathe, Kan., died unexpectedly in Olathe on Friday, March 25, 2011. He was born on March 15, 1954, in Beatrice and graduated from Beatrice High School in 1972. He worked at Johnson Heating and Sheet Metal before attending Milford Technical School and graduating in 1979 with honors in land surveying. Johnson, 57, of Olathe, Kan., died unexpectedly in Olathe on Friday, March 25, 2011. He was born on March 15, 1954, in Beatrice and graduated from Beatrice High School in 1972. He worked at Johnson Heating and Sheet Metal before attending Milford Technical School and graduating in 1979 with honors in land surveying. He married Lorri Fielder on May 19, 1979, at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice. He worked at several places including Wehling Engineering and B-G Engineering both of Beatrice and then was transferred to Manhattan and later Olathe, Kan. He worked at Story Surveying, Jim Schmitz Surveying and since 1991 has worked for Schmitz King and Associates as well as owning Johnson Surveying in Olathe. He was a member of the Kansas Society of Land Surveyors and the Missouri Society of Professional Surveyors. He was a former member of the Westside Baptist Church and St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice, the Advent Lutheran Church and St. Mark's Lutheran Church both of Olathe, Kan. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, was a history buff and digging up old plat maps. Survivors include his wife Lorri Johnson of Olathe, Kan.; two sons Chad Johnson and wife Jacquelyne of Smithville, Mo. and Chase Johnson of Washington, D.C.; one brother Randy Johnson and wife Brenda of Beatrice; three half-brothers Kenneth Melcher and wife Sharon of Aurora, Colo., Richard Melcher and wife Cheryl of Mounds, Okla., and Eugene Melcher and wife Bonnie of Burlington, Ky.; one sister-in-law Marian Melcher of Beatrice; parents-in-law Gene and Rena Fielder of Beatrice; three brothers-in-law Keith Fielder and wife Janna, Steven Fielder and wife Susan and Richard Fielder and wife Carol Ann all of Beatrice; two sisters-in-law Carol Smith and husband Chris of Beatrice and Linda Goes and husband Rodney of Wymore; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Hiram and Evelyn (Johnson) Melcher Johnson and half-brother Darrell Melcher. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor David Kramer officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of the church. A memorial has been established to the family's choice. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from 8 a.m. Tuesday until 9 p.m. Wednesday and then at the church one hour preceding the service on Thursday.
