Description	:	Dennis William Beck 1980 Bridgewater Bulletin The community of Upper Branch and surrounding area was saddened Thursday, November 6, 1980 to learn of the death of Dennis Beck. Mr. Beck was the oldest resident of Upper Branch and lived all his life in that community. He would have been 98 years old November 22, and was the last surviving member of his family. Of a kind and loving personality, "Uncle Demmie", as he was commonly known, will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Beck was the oldest resident of Upper Branch and lived all his life in that community. He would have been 98 years old November 22, and was the last surviving member of his family. Of a kind and loving personality, "Uncle Demmie", as he was commonly known, will be missed by all who knew him. He was lovingly cared for by his daughter-in-law, Bernardine and son, Ernest, with whom he lived. In 1976, after having major surgery, Bernardine and Ernest were helped in caring for him by several homekeepers and after the illness and death of Bernardine, other family members and homemakers helped to care for him in his home. Though unable to get outdoors for the last two years, he continued to get around in the house with help and a walker. He was always cheerful and enjoyed company. Born in Upper Branch, November 22, 1882, "Uncle Demmie" was the son of the late Edmuns and Julie (Hirtle) Beck. He is survived by two sons, Ernest, Upper Branch; Willis, Midville Branch; and one daughter, Kathleen (Mrs. Glenwood Oickle) Upper Branch; granddaughters, Madelene, Joan, Jean, Suzanne, and Sharon; grandsons, Melvin, Randall, and Wendell; and great-grandchildren, Sheldon, Timmie, Michelle, Tracie, Jamie, Lorelie, and Gavin. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Minnie Crouse, April 7, 1933; brothers, Hiram, Ananias, Harvey, Kenneth, Angus, and Collie; sister, Ida (Mrs. Allie Wagner) and Nettie; daughter-in-law, Bernardine and great-grandson, Dwayne Beck. The body rested at Wamback's Memorial Chapel, Bridgewater. Funeral services were held in the Union Church, Upper Branch, which Mr. Beck faithfully attended as long as health permitted. Pastor Alex Smith officiated, assisted by Rev. Max Spencer. Burial was in the family plot, Upper Branch Cemetery. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
