Description	:	Denton Martin, 91, of Piney River, left this life March 18. Born March 12, 1918, he was a son of the late Walter and Gertrude Ballowe Martin of Phoenix. He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Gertrude White Martin; his sons, Warren (Joyce) Martin of Piney River and Dennis (Judy) Martin of Concord; and the daughter of his heart, Nancy (Mrs. Buddy) Martin of Piney River. In addition, left to mourn his passing are his brothers, Vernon (Sandra) Martin of Lynchburg and Reeves (Betty) Martin of Lynchburg; his sisters, Gladys (Sparky) Blanks of Lynchburg and Alberta Clisham, also of Lynchburg; his grandchildren, Roger Martin of Amherst, Tim (Shelley) Martin of Linden, Angie (Ray) Tolbert of Amherst, Keith (Stacey) Martin of Chesterfield, Jeff (Michelle) Martin of Rustburg, and Gerry Martin and Phillip Martin, both of Concord, and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Carroll Martin; eight brothers, Thomas, Frank, Charlie, Emmett, Jimmy, Dan, Elwood and Willard; three sisters, Lucy Martin, Hazel Martin and Annie Huffman; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson. Denton was a godly man who loved first his Lord, his church and his family. He was a member of Rose Union Baptist Church in Piney River for 67 years and served as a deacon and usher for more than 50 years. He drove a school bus for the Nelson County school system for 35 years, retiring in 2000. He also worked for Saunders Brothers for 55 years. A funeral service was held March 22 at Rose Union Baptist Church, Piney River, with the Rev. John Campbell officiating. Burial followed in Jonesboro Cemetery.
