Nr. Buss was born in Germany 63 years ago and came to America when about seven or eight years of age. When a young man he came to Kansas and located in Riley where he lived until he came to this county eight years ago and bought the Joe Fief farm southeast of town. Mr. Buss, entirely a self-made man, was also a man of unusual character and he was in every sense of the word a truly Christian gentleman. He was a deep thinker on all subjects and his conclusions were always logical. Mr. Buss was born in Germany June 23, 1858. He came to American with his parents when he was between seven and eight years of age and for a time lived in Illinois. He came to Kansas in 1869 first settling near Leonardville in Riley County, and that was his home until he came to this county eight years ago and purchased the Joe Fief farm where he lived until his death. He was united in marriage at Huscher, Kansas, September 30, 1883 to Miss Katherine Berk, of this county, and the widow with nine children live in this county except Mrs. Wm. Wager, who lives in Sultan, Wash., and on account of undergoing an operation last fall was unable to come here for the funeral. The children are all grown and the eight living in this county are: Lucas Buss, John Buss, Henry Buss, Anna Buss, George Buss, Menno Buss, Mrs. Sam Winteroth and Albert Buss.Mr. Buss is also survived by three brothers, Henry, George and Menno buss of Leonardville; and three sisters, Mrs. Fred Koester, of Aurora; Mrs. T R. Nanninga, of Emporia; and Mrs. Henry Swart, of Leonardville. The funeral was held from the church at Huscher Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock and the services were in charge of Rev. Mastin and Rev. Spencer. The remains were laid to rest in the Nelson Center Cemetery. The Riley Regent (Riley, Kansas) Thursday March 16, 1922 Page 1 Buss Derk Buss was born June 23, 1858 at Stickhausen, Ostfresland, Germany, and died March 9, 1922, aged 73 years, 8 months and 16 day at his home hear Concordia, Kansas. He came to America with his parents in 1966 locating in Ogle County, Illinois. Removing to Kansas in 1869, they located near Leonardville, where he resided until 1914 when he removed to Cloud County, Kansas. He was married to Katharena Berk, Sept. 30, 1883. To this union were born ten children, one dying in infancy. Mr. Buss is survived by his widow, six sons and three daughters, three brothers and three sisters, twelve grandchildren and a host of friends. Mr. Buss was converted in 1881 under the preaching of Rev. Heisen. He immediately identified himself with the Evangelical church and has been a consistent member and died triumphant of a living faith.
