Wray of Mercer Township which occurred Sunday at midnight from heart failure super induced by an old long standing case of gangrene of his foot. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Salem Brethren church and was conducted by Rev. Homer Caskey of Council Bluffs. Interment was made at Salem cemetery. Dewitt Clinton Wray was born November 30, 1850, in Franklin County, Va., and was aged 63 years, 1 month and 19 days. He lived in the place of his birth until the year of 1866 when, with his parents, he removed to Iowa, settling in Marion County. In 1870 he came to Adams County which has since been his home. He was married to Miss Martha Harader at Mt. Etna September 8, 1878, who survives her husband. Six children were born to them and are as follows: Mrs. Virdelia Brown of Fairmont, Nebr.; H. H. Wray of Irricana, Alberta, Canada; W. W. Wray of Portland, Ore.; J. E. Wray of Trigo, Calif.; John W. Wray and Mrs. Cora Simpson of this county. All the children were present at the funeral of their father except, J. E. Wray, who removed to Trigo, Calif., a few months ago. Besides his wife and children he leaves fourteen grandchildren and four brothers and three sisters, who were former Adams county residents. The brothers are Dan and Mankin Wray of Grant Township; John D. Wray of National City, Colo.; Chalmon Wray of Berthoud, Colo.; Mrs. Francis Patterson and Mrs. Mary Monroe of Sterling, Colo.; and Mrs. Amanda Huston of Decatur City, Ia. The deceased was one of the best respected men in this part of the country, friends often remarking that his word was as good as his bond. He had accumulated considerable property and was comfortably situated and leaves his family well provided for. Mr. Wray was deeply religious man and had for many years been a devoted member of the Brethren church. The family has the sympathy, of their many friends in this vicinity.
