Read More	Mrs. Virdelia Brown, 80, longtime resident of Fairmont, passed away last Thursday about 11 p.m. at the York General Hospital. Up to the last Mrs. Brown had been very active and maintained her own home in the east part of town. She loved to work in her yard and with her flowers. She had helped Saturday and during the evening at the Federated church bazar. Apparently she took ill suddenly and was unable to call for help. However, her neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hall, became worried and went to home early Thursday morning, finding her unconscious. A doctor was called and Mrs. Brown was taken to the hospital. Funeral services were to be held Sunday at the Federated church, but the family received a telegram just about time for the services telling them the son, Haldean of Formosa, was coming. Haldean arrived in Fairmont Tuesday morning. Graveside services were held Wednesday morning in the Fairmont cemetery. Virdelia Brown was born February 25, 1880 in Mercer township of Adams County, Iowa. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt Wray. In June, 1900, she was graduated from the Corning, Ia., Academy. September 19 of that year, she and Fred Brown Jr. were united in holy matrimony. They then moved to Nebraska, making their residence first near Exeter in 1903 and then near Fairmont in 1907. With the exception of eight and one-half years spent in Crete, from 1924-33, she remained in Fairmont from 1907 until her death December 8, 1960. Throughout her life, Mrs. Brown was extremely active as a member of the First Baptist church of Corning, Ia., the Baptist church of Exeter and the Congregational and Federated churches of Fairmont. Besides her church membership, she adequately met the responsibilities of a church clerk, teacher of the Federated church adult Sunday school class and pioneer teacher of a Sunday school class which began meeting in the District 17 schoolhouse in 1911. Also, she was a charter member of The Fairmont Woman's Club as well as an honorary alumnus of Doane College, having sent six children through four years of college--a record yet unbroken. She is survived by six children, Harold Brown of Santa Ana, Cal., Haldean Brown of Formosa, Wilfred Brown of San Diego, Cal., Vindelia Morton of Beatrice, Neb., Vivian Brown of Big Rock, Ill., and Velda Buland of Waterman, Ill. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ronald Carr at the Federated church. Mrs. Anna Marie Hall, soloist, sang "Be Still My Soul" and "God's Tomorrow." Mrs. Janet Domeier was accompanist. Pallbearers were Federal Bridgman, Willard Goodrich, Homer Goodrich, Relph Lefler, Hubert McClellan and Preston Ogden. Interment was in the Fairmont Cemetery.
