Mr. Bonnema had been in Hawarden Monday and was enjoying his usual good health. At supper time he remarked that he had a pain in his chest but thought he was merely suffering from a slight cold and so did not wish medical aid. Read More	DIRK BONNEMA D1ED SUDDENLY WELL KNOWN EAGLE TOWNSHIP FARMER DIED MONDAY Dirk Bonnema, a long time resident of Eagle township, passed away suddenly at his home about 8 o'clock Monday evening from a heart attack. Mr. Bonnema had been in Hawarden Monday and was enjoying his usual good health. At supper time he remarked that he had a pain in his chest but thought he was merely suffering from a slight cold and so did not wish medical aid. While sitting in a chair he was stricken suddenly and died almost immediately. Funeral services will be held from the home at one o'clock Friday afternoon and from the Christian Reformed church at Lebanon at two o'clock, Rev. John Rubing officiating. Burial will be made in the cemetery at Lebanon. Dirk Bonnema was born in Grongen, Holland, Feb. 3, 1869, and passed away April 26, 1937, at the age of 68 years, 2 months and 23 days. His parents died when he was a small child and so at the age of 14 he came to America with his brothers, who located at Orange City. He was united in marriage with Tillie Westra at Orange City in 1891 and to this union were born eleven children, one of whom preceded him in death. Following his marriage he lived at Rock Valley for five years when he moved to Chicago where he lived for twelve years. In 1908 he returned to this vicinity. For the past 24 years he has lived on his farm in Eagle township. He has been a long time and faithful member of the Christian Reformed church at Lebanon. He leaves to mourn his sudden death his wife and ten children, Jerry, Albert, Peter and Mrs. Jake Harmsen of Hawarden; Rev. David Bonnema of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Dick Bonnema of Prinsburg, Minn.; Mrs. Peter Reinders of Hull Mrs. Harry Niezen of Artesia, Calif.; Mrs. Joe Vos of Santa Ana, Calif.; and Henry Bonnema at home. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Claus Wiersum of Kenosha, Wis., and three brothers Ben and Jerry Bonnema of Chicago and John Bonnema of Prinsburg, Minn. He also leaves 38 grandchildren. All of his children will be here to attend the funeral and his three brothers will also be here but his sister, who is past 80 years of age, is unable to come. Hawarden Independent 1937-04-29.
