He passed away at his home last Friday. Born in Sonora, Mexico, on May 3, 1857, Mr. Castro came to Kern county with his parents at the age of 10. After leaving public schools he took up stock raising on his father's land situated 3 miles south of Bakersfield and on acreage in Mount Breckenridge. In 1870 he married Lucy Cage, Napa county, also purchasing more land south of Bakersfield on Union avenue. Later he rented his farms and settled in East Bakersfield, where he built his home, or order to provide better educational facilities for the children. Mr. Castro was noted for his active interest in schools and St. Joseph's Church. He retired from active management of his ranches in 1918. His wife, Mrs. Lucy Castro, passed away 22 years ago. He is survived by three sons, Louis of Bakersfield, Andrew M. of Santa Ana, and Felix C. Castro of Phoenix; two daughters, Marguerite Castro and Mrs. Amelia G. Northey, both of Bakersfield; two brothers, P. C. Castro and Emelio C. Castro, both of Bakersfield; a sister, Mrs. Ramona Castro, Bakersfield. Grandchildren, Floyd W. Castro, Marjorie Castro, Los Angeles; John Albert Castro, Los Angeles, and Cecilia Ann Epper, Bakersfield; and two great-grandchildren, Gloria Lee and Phillip Ray Crandall, both of Los Angeles.
