Description	:	Donald Dean Mietzner, 90 years of age, of Alma, (formerly of Wilcox, Nebraska) passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Good Samaritan – Colonial Villa in Alma. Don was born on July 23, 1928 in Wilcox, the youngest of three children to George Ludwig and Estelle Adaline (Hoffsteadt) Mietzner. Read More	Donald Dean Mietzner, 90 years of age, of Alma, (formerly of Wilcox, Nebraska) passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Good Samaritan – Colonial Villa in Alma. Don was born on July 23, 1928 in Wilcox, the youngest of three children to George Ludwig and Estelle Adaline (Hoffsteadt) Mietzner. He attended Wilcox Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1945. On July 23, 1945, he was inducted into the United States Army and served as a combat engineer in WWII. Don was honorably discharged, following his service, in 1946. Following his discharge, Don pursued higher education at Nebraska Wesleyan College in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education. On August 27, 1950, Don was united in marriage to Clara Mae “Pat” Patterson at Alma, and the couple was blessed with five children: Donald, Jr., Debra, Doug, Denise, and Dianne. The family made their home in numerous towns in Nebraska, including: Blue Hill, where he was proud to have taken them to their first two State Football Championships, back-to-back. Don served as an Administrator in Sumner, Nebraska; later helping consolidate the schools to Sumner-Eddyville-Miller. He then took a position as the Superintendent at Sumner-Eddyville-Miller; Stratton, Nebraska; Arcadia, Nebraska; and Orleans, Nebraska, where he served as the principal for 10 years and retired. In 1997, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Jensen and the couple lived in Bloomington, Minnesota. She preceded him in death in April 2011. Don was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wilcox, and the American Legion. He was dedicated to the schools and students in each community he served, and started many organizations throughout his career. Don was an avid reader and loved to golf. Don was preceded in death by; his parents; his first wife, Pat; second wife, Evelyn; one grandson, Dustin Mickelson; brother, Gerald Mietzner and his wife, Jan; and sister, Ardith Edwards and her husband, John. He leaves to celebrate his life; his children: Donald Mietzner and his wife, Dee of Alma; Debra Mickelson and her husband, David of Laramie, Wyoming; Doug Mietzner and his wife, Dana of Castle Rock, Colorado; Denise Thomas-Canum and her husband, Rob of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and Dianne Petersen and her husband, David of Omaha, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Celebration of Life Services for Donald D. Mietzner will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma, Nebraska. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. The family is honoring Don’s wish of cremation. The Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma is in charge of the arrangements.
