Koons Dec. 12, 1938-Nov. 2, 2011 Mr. Donald D. KOONS, 72, 525 Pontiac St., Rochester, passed away at 10:05 p.m. Wednesday at his residence following a short illness. He was born on Dec. 12, 1938, in Cass County, to Carl and Leone Bunnell Koons. On Dec. 21, 1979, Don and Marsha Renfroe Cloud were married, and she survives. Proud to serve our country, Don spent a tour of duty for 15 years with the U.S. Air Force. He was an instructor for the flight control systems for nine years and then went to Okinawa as a missile systems analyst. He later transferred to Cryptographic repairman school. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1972, he worked for various instrument companies. In 1981, he became a field representative for Fisher and Porter in Indianapolis. Then, in 1985, Fisher and Porter transferred Don and Marsha to Kalamazoo, Mich., where they spent 19 years until his retirement in 2004. In 2004, they returned to their hometown of Rochester to be close to family. Don was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Am Vets. He was a Golden Age of the Eages. He was greatly loved by his four cats, Pooch, Gopher, Bunny and Wolf. He also enjoyed sudoku, crosswords, golf and bowling. Surviving with his wife, Marsha, are two daughters, Pamela Hammel, of Rochester, and Donna Koons, of Texas; four sons, Keith Koons, of Texas, Mike Cloud and wife Laura, Jeff Cloud and wife Deb, and Ty Cloud and wife Rita, all of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Barnett, of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Marilyn Garvison and Maxine Badger. Military rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with visitation one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. He will be laid to eternal rest in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to his family by signing his guestbook or lighting a candle in his memory at goodfamilyfh.com.
