Read More	Donald "Donnie" Landers, 84, Kenmare, ND, passed away peacefully Friday, July 30, 2010, in the Kenmare hospital, after a long illness. Donald was born September 5, 1925 in Kenmare, ND, to Harry and Gina (Monson) Landers. He was raised and schooled in Spencer Township. As a teenager he attended welding school in Mandan, ND. He went on to Seattle, WA and worked in the ship yards. In 1943, Donald was drafted into the United States Navy and served in the Mediterranean and South Pacific Seas during World War II, as a Machinists Mate Second Class. Upon his discharge in 1946, he returned to Kenmare and took up farming. In 1963 he bought the family farm. Donald farmed until his retirement in 2003, but continued to live on the farm until 2009, when he moved into Kenmare. In 1989, Donald married Wanda (Bird) Long at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare. Donald was a past Deacon at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. He served on the Board of Directors of Our Savior Church Cemetery Association. He was a member of Farmers Union Spencer-Baden Local and the Kenmare Rural Fire Department. Donald loved the land and his greatest passion was farming, his family and animals. He enjoyed taking trips with his travel companion and devoted wife, Wanda. Donald loved music and dancing and was a member of the Circle and Swing Square Dance Club in Kenmare. Donald was well known for his generosity of time and money. Those who shared in his life, Wife, Wanda, Kenmare; stepdaughter, Sheila (Mark) Miller, Minot; brothers, Allen, Herman and Irwin Landers, all of Kenmare; sister, Hazel Sorensen, Des Moines, IA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Emma Anderson, and brother, Milton Landers. Funeral: Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare, ND. Visitation and prayer service: Visitation will be Monday, August 2, 2010, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, ND. Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor's choice. Officiating Clergy: Rev. John Syvertson Music: Congregational Hymns "Old Rugged Cross" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" Pastor John Syvertson, vocalist, "In the Garden" Joan Larson, organist Honorary Bearers: All of Donald's family and friends Active Bearers: Donald's nephews Rodney Landers, Jerry Landers, Randy Landers, Rocky Landers, Allen Olson, Cameron Olson Military honors accorded by members of the ND National Honor Guard. Following the graveside service everyone is invited to join the family in the lower level of the church for lunch and fellowship. Our family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.
