DONALD E. BENGTSON Donald E. Bengtson was born, August 16, 1909, near Essex, Page County, Iowa, to Samuel Bengston and Selma Ring Burg Bengston. He passed away at his home in Essex on November 23, 1998 at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 7 days. He attended school in Essex and graduated from Essex High School with the class of 1926. Donald was confirmed in the Essex Mission Covenant Church. He went to COIN Electric Engineering School in Chicago, Illinois. On May 23, 1930, Donald married Marion H. Almquist at Essex. To this union three children were born, Patricia, Gene, and Mary Jo. Donald farmed north of Essex and retired in 1971. Preceding Donald in death were his parents, his beloved Marion on August 7, 1992, four brothers, Charles Bengston, Eric Bengston, Carl Burg, and Clarence Burg; and six sisters, Mrs. Joe Hart (Anna), Mrs. Frank Sederburg (Beda), Mrs. Bert McClintock (Ellen), Mrs. Flay Jackson (Mary), Mrs. Edwin Johnson (Carrie), and Mrs. Reuel Abraham (Esther). Survivors include his children, Patrica Bengtson Havener and her husband Gerald of Essex, Gene A. Bengtson and his wife Betty of Midway, Texas, Mary Jo Bengtson Dunmire Marotta and her husband Gerald D. Marotta of Madison, Alabama. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Michelle Tuck and her husband, Doug of Essex, Iowa, Jerry W. Havener and his wife Angela of Clarinda, Iowa, April Bennett and her husband Vince of Trinity, Texas, Keith Bengston of Midway Texas, and Robin Dunmire of Madison, Alabama; five great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Jared, and Jordan Havener, Gabrielle Tuck and Taylor Bennett; also many nieces and nephews. Mr. Bengston was a good and loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family. Funeral services were held at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah, Iowa, Friday, November 27, 1998 at 10:30 AM. The Rev. David Carlson officiated and interment was in the Essex Cemetery, New Addition, Seventh Row, Lot 31. At the memory register was Marian Abraham. Caring for flowers were Donna Abraham and Elaine Lindburg. Pianist was Doris Sandahl and soloist was Virginia Hart. Musical selections were "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art." Honorary bearers were Deloye Abraham, Glen Almquist, Sam Bengston, Raymond Berlin, Donald Burg, Virgil Flynn, Martin Head, Martin Johnson, Harry Sandahl, and Floyd Tuck. Casket bearers were Jerry W.
