Description	:	MARION H. BENGTSON Marion Helen (Almquist) Bengtson, daughter of Albert and Ella (Dunmire) Almquist, was born August 16, 1910, in rural Page County, east of Essex, Iowa. She graduated from Essex High School in 1929. On May 23, 1930, she was united in marriage with Donald Bengtson and to this union three children were born: Patricia, Gene, and Mary Jo. BENGTSON Marion Helen (Almquist) Bengtson, daughter of Albert and Ella (Dunmire) Almquist, was born August 16, 1910, in rural Page County, east of Essex, Iowa. She graduated from Essex High School in 1929. On May 23, 1930, she was united in marriage with Donald Bengtson and to this union three children were born: Patricia, Gene, and Mary Jo. They farmed in Page County, until their retirement in 1975, when they moved to Essex, Iowa. Marion was confirmed in the Shenandoah Covenant Church and after its closing attended the Essex Covenant Church. She enjoyed gardening and loved the teaching of Sunday School. She began teaching Sunday School right after high school and had taught at Climax and both the Shenandoah and Essex Covenant Churches. Mrs. Bengtson was a member of the West Franklin Grove Birthday Club and also the S. C. Birthday Club. Marion was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Donald of Essex, three children, Patricia and her husband Gerald Havener of Essex, Iowa, Gene Bengtson and wife Betty of Midway, Texas, Mary Jo and husband Gerald Marotta of Madison, Alabama; five grandchildren, Michelle Tuck of Essex, Jerry W. Havener of Clarinda, April Bengtson of Huntsville, Texas, Keith Bengtson of Midway, Texas, and Robin Dunmire of Madison, Alabama; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Warren Almquist of San Diego, California, Irwin Almquist of El Segundo, California, Glen Almquist of Winterset, Iowa, Robert Almquist of Sun City West, Arizona, and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mrs. Bengtson passed away early Friday morning, August 7, 1992, at her home. She was 81 years old. Services were held Monday afternoon at Hackett Funeral Home in Shenandoah, Iowa. The Rev. Melvin C. Suhr officiated and burial was at the Essex Cemetery. Caring for flowers during the funeral services were Doris and Harry Sandahl. Marian Abraham was in charge of the memory register and Dorothy Lang in charge of memorials. Organist was Margaret Woods, and Virginia Hart was soloist. Casket bearers were De Loyd Abraham, Larry Abraham, Roger Abraham, Keith Bengtson, Gerald Havener, Jerry W. Havener, Gerald Marotta, and Douglas Tuck.
