Read More	SAMUEL BENGTSON, ESSEX MAN DIES Prominent Citizen Born in Sweden, Came to America in 1885; Returned There To Wed On July 1st, 1917, Samuel Bengtson, one of the most prominent and most respected citizens of this community, died at the hospital in Shenandoah yesterday, after an illness of two weeks from kidney trouble. He had a stroke two years ago and had completely recovered. He has been falling and took to his bed two weeks ago. Sunday he was taken to the hospital for a minor operation, but continued to grow worse until the end. He was born in Sweden May 30, 1850, and was educated in the public schools of his native land. Upon reaching manhood he secured a position as coachman which he followed for fifteen years and during which he had the honor of driving the king a couple of times. In 1895, he emigrated to America and came at once to Page County, Iowa and located in Pierce Township. He remained a resident of this community for forty years, respected and honored by all who knew him. He worked three years as a farm hand and then rented a farm for eight years. At the end of that time he had accumulated enough money to purchase property of his own, 160 acres and in 1905 added 183 1/2 acres more. He was married in Sweden in 1873 to Miss Clara Magneson with whom he lived until her death in 1906. Six children were born to this union, four of them still living, Charles Bengtson, Mrs. Bert McClintock, Erick Bengtson, and Mrs. Flay Jackson. Later he married the widow of Gust Berg and by her had one child, Donald Bengtson. Mrs. Bengston had four children by her first marriage, Cara and Clarence Burg, Mrs. Ed Johnson and Mrs. R. Abraham. Mr. Bengston leaves sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One brother also remains, Lud Bengtson at this time, the last of the family. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the home and 2:30 at the Mission Church, Essex Cemetery, New Addition, Seventh Row, Lot 31.
