Description	:	Donald Herman Rathe, 79, of Readlyn, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, November 28, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, following a brief illness. Don was born on November 28, 1928, in rural Readlyn, Iowa, the son of Edward and Esther (Meyer) Rathe. Don was baptized on December 16, 1928, and confirmed on May 23, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Klinger. He attended school at Immanuel Lutheran in Klinger and graduated from the Readlyn High School in 1947. Following his schooling, Don helped his father on the home farm. Don was born on November 28, 1928, in rural Readlyn, Iowa, the son of Edward and Esther (Meyer) Rathe. Don was baptized on December 16, 1928, and confirmed on May 23, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Klinger. He attended school at Immanuel Lutheran in Klinger and graduated from the Readlyn High School in 1947. Following his schooling, Don helped his father on the home farm. Don honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1952-1954. Don and Burdene were united in marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Artesian on April 18, 1954. The couple made their home on a farm near Dunkerton where Don farmed until 1987. The couple then moved to Larrabee Avenue, rural Waverly. Following Burdene's death on March 2, 1994, Don moved to Readlyn. Don was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Readlyn and a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Artesian and Immanuel Lutheran in Klinger. Don enjoyed fishing dancing, playing cards, but most of all loved spending time with his family and friends. Don is survived by his six sons and their spouses; Dean and Elsie Rathe of Viroqua, Wisconsin, Allan and Lois Rathe of Dunkerton, Kent and Laurie Rathe of Polson, Montana, David and Jo Ann Rathe of Creston, Jonathan and Ronda Rathe of Dunkerton, and Joel and Becki Rathe of Wellsburg; 20 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Venice and Eleanor Rathe of Readlyn; and one sister and her husband, Ramona and Roy Kramer of Shoreview, Minnesota. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Burdene, a daughter, Diane Rathe in infancy, and a sister and her husband, Verna and Lavern Hesse. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Readlyn, with Pastor Larry Feldt officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Artesian. Public visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home in Readlyn and also for an hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Rathe family.
