He was born Feb. 17, 1911, on a farm near Frankfort, the son of Harry T. and Edna J. Warnica Harper. He went to school in Vermillion and graduated from high school there in 1928.In 1936 he married Edythe M. Connet. She died in 1997. He married Aletha Slifer in 1987. She died in 2002. He was a farmer, real estate agent and auctioneer in the Marshall County area. He also was a lay minister throughout the county and operated a truck farming operation in his later years, selling watermellons and cantelopes. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Arlene Wang and Adrienne Harper, and a granddaughter, Colleen VanDyke. Survivors include five sons, Wayne L. Harper, Frankfort, James C. Harper, Timothy R. Harper, John P. Harper, all of Vermillion, and William R. Harper, Aurora, Colo.; one daughter, Karen Zidek, Vermillion; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
