He was born October 31, 1921, outside of Mansfield in the home where he lived until his recent passing. His parents, Joseph Homer Love and Louisa Catherine Love operated the family farm for a number of years prior to the time that his mother passed away and his father retired. Donald and his brother, Joseph, expanded the farm that supported both brothers' families. At one time, they operated one John Deere Tractor, 24 hours a day, to make it possible to grow the farm. Joseph eventually relocated to Missouri to start other farm operations. Donald graduated from Mansfield High School in 1939, and maintained a lifetime of friendships in this close-knit community. It was not unusual when one farmer became sick, that others would pitch in to help. Donald was very proud of his friends, not only once but twice, when they showed up to help him complete a wheat harvest after he suffered a heart attack and later when he underwent a bypass surgery, which left him unable to finish the harvest. Donald was a life long member of the Community of Christ Church. He took great pride in serving the Lord and would read the Bible after coming in from a long day in the fields. He was baptized in 1932, was ordained a Priest in 1951, and called to be an Elder in 1961. He served a number of years as the Pastor of his church in Bridgeport, WA. Donald was also active in his community and served as a Cub Scout Leader for a number of years. He was a long time member of the Mansfield Grange and belonged to the Washington Wheat Grower's and Cattleman's Associations. While Donald was very active in his community, there was nothing more that he loved to do than spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Donald met Anna Louise Dietrich in Chelan and they were married on March 3, 1946. He frequently referred to her as "Blue Eyes", the love of his life. To everyone in the family, Donald was known as "DJ". Donald and Louise raised their four children on the family farm in Mansfield. He continued farming into his mid 80's until his health required that he retire. Donald is survived by his wife, Anna Louise Love of Mansfield; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Brenda Love of San Jose, CA; son, Stephen James Love of Mansfield and daughters and sons-inlaw, Connie and Don Whitman of Wenatchee and Donita and Dave Bernstein of Wenatchee. He is also survived by six grandchildren. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the Community of Christ Church, which is located at 690 North Baker Street in East Wenatchee. With Internment at 4 p.m. at the Mansfield Cemetery. Friends are welcome to join the family at the reception dinner which will be held at the Mansfield Grange. A public viewing time will be held at Jones & Jones ~ Betts Funeral Home, Monday July 18, 2011, from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mansfield Ambulance Association.
