He passed away on July 27, 2000, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Geneva at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 24 days. He was the older of two children in the family. Don attended Geneva Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1946. Following his graduation he worked for area farmers and at Biba Engineering until he was called to service for the United States Army. He served for two years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in April of 1953. He returned to Geneva and began working for Biba Engineering, where he was employed until his retirement in July of 1994. Don was married to Lois Vera Klein on Nov. 8, 1953, at her parents home in Sutton. They spent their entire life making their home in Geneva and raising their four children. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Geneva and the Samuel J. Marsh V.F.W. Post No. 7102. Don enjoyed working outside be it working the land, tending his garden, hunting or fishing. He was a great story teller and would always embellish his tales of fishing and hunting. The two point buck that got away somehow always managed to grow a few more antler points or that fish gained a few more pounds when the story was retold. He made many lifelong friends throughout the state while working and traveling for Bibas and he took great pride in keeping those friendships through the years. One of his most admirable traits was his great love and kindness for animals and he instilled that in his children. A stray, hurt or sick animal always found him and capture his care and attention. A construction accident in July of 1994, forced him to retire from the work he loved, and the hobbies he enjoyed. From that point on, he spent many countless hours reminiscing about his adventures to his children and grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, James V. and Agnes Elznic; his wife Lois; and by many aunts, uncles as well as many friends. He is survived by his four children: daughter Karla and husband Frank Slezak and their daughters, Jodi and Kelly; son Donald Jr. and wife Debra and their children, Sarah and Tyler (T.J.); Tim Elznic and Joe Elznic and son, Patrick (P.J.); aunts, Agnes Stofer, Alyce Fussell, Mildred Nemeskal, Emylie Zenisek, Henrietta Yant; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, with Kim Dunker officiating. Musical selections were One Day at a Time Angel and The Dance. Casket bearers were Donald Jr., Timothy and Joseph Elznic; Frank Slezak, Jason Elznic and Rodger Stofer. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery with flag presentation services by the V.F.W.
