Description	:	Donald Lee Strothkamp was born May 23, 1923 to Allen J. & Gladys O. Strothkamp in the Chelsea Township. His parents moved to Madison Township when he was four years old. He had two brothers at that time, Lloyd, and Robert Earl. His mother had a car accident when Donald was a baby. His brother Lloyd was killed. He enjoyed fishing and... Read More	Donald Lee Strothkamp was born May 23, 1923 to Allen J. & Gladys O. Strothkamp in the Chelsea Township. His parents moved to Madison Township when he was four years old. He had two brothers at that time, Lloyd, and Robert Earl. His mother had a car accident when Donald was a baby. His brother Lloyd was killed. Donald's mother had three more babies--Doris, Virgil, and Kenneth. Times were hard when he was growing up, but since everyone was having hard times, it didn't worry the boy much. He enjoyed fishing and hunting-all the things boys do. He went to country school at Dist. 3, and one year of high school. When he was 16 years old, Donald went with his brother Earl, and friends Kenneth Taylor and Don Miller, to Minnesota to help with harvest. There was no harvest at home. He worked for 35 cents and hour, and was glad to have it. He didn't come home with too much money. In 1941, Donald made a trip to Denver, Colo. to see his future wife. He was married to Joy Ann Thomas in May of 1942. They were married 63 years. Donald and Joy had six children- David Lee, Thomas Allen, Marilyn Joy, Daryl Ray, Janet Ann, and roger Charles. Roger was killed in an automobile accident in 1956. In 1965-1966, he and his brother Kenneth started the Geneva Auto-Gro business. When Kenneth decided to move to Missouri, Donald and Joy became the proprietors. in 1975, Daryl and his family moved to Geneva, and joined them in the tomato business. The business was gradually turned over to Daryl. Donald always continued to hunt and fish. At one time, he played on the DX Softball Team. Donald and Joy spent about 20 years in their motor home and boat. They spent many winter months in San Benito, Texas where Donald made many friends. Donald has always enjoyed his home and gardening, and wood working . He loved his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Donald farmed many years while his children were young, from 1942 to 1980. Donald is survived by his wife Joy; sons Daryl and wife Vicky; David and wife Pam; and Thomas and wife Dolores; daughters Marilyn and husband Curt Saville; and Janet and husband Mike Wilkins; 24 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Memorial services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva, on Saturday, July 2. Members of the family led the service. Musical selections for the service were "Donald's Song" and "Com to Jesus." Inurnment of ashes were held at the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal July 13th, 2005 page 10.
