Description	:	Funeral Services for Donald N. Wies, age 86, of Creighton, will be held Thursday, July 26, 2007 at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton. Fr. Keith Rezac will be the celebrant with burial in St. Ludger Catholic Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #74 and VFW Post #1151 of Creighton. Mr. Wies died Monday, July 23 at the Creighton Care Centre. Two more great grandchildren will be arriving in the near future, one in December and one in January. Don was born May 7, 1921 in Pierre, South Dakota to J.A. and Laura (Stokes) Wies. He was the eldest of seven children. He graduated from Blunt High School in Blunt, South Dakota. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army Air Corp and attended Airplane Mechanics School at Lincoln Air Force Base, in Lincoln, NE and the Lockheed P-38 school in Burbank, California. He served overseas with the Sixth Air Force based with the 48th Headquarter Air Squadron at France Field in the Panama Canal Zone with part time duty in Columbia, Peru, and Equador, in South America. He served as an Aircraft Mechanic, Crew Chief, Line Chief, and Aerial Engineer. On September 25, 1948, Donald and Helen Margaret Gaughan were united in Marriage at Incarnation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN. They lived in the Creighton area. Don Wies farmed and worked at West Lumber Yard in Creighton for many years. He retired as manager from West Lumber in 1988. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening, wood working, and working at Action Sports in Creighton until 2006. Don was a member of St. Ludger Parish and Knights of Columbus. He was a member of VFW Post 1151 of Creighton and was past Commander. He served on the Creighton Chamber of Commerce, Park Board, and Airport Authority for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen in December 2006, parents, brothers Robert and Gerald Wies, sisters Dorothy Tarrant and Jo Ann Wagner, and grandchild Derrick Goedeker. He is survived by his children Mary Ann (Ken) O'Came, Center Moriches, NY, Donna (Jay) Baumann, Norfolk, NE, Sandy (Dennis) Blaalid, Yankton, SD, Vickie (Van) Montgomery, Crofton, NE, Carol (Rick) Goedeker, Creighton, NE, Margaret (Mike) DeJong, Inver Grove Heights, MN, Nick (Ellen) Wies, Waukee, IA, nineteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Eleanor Johnson of Mt. Vernon, WA and one brother, Joe Wies of Neligh, NE. Arrangements by Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.
