Donald Russell Paine, 80 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Edison) passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Blue Valley Care Home in Hebron, Nebraska. Don was born August 9, 1934 in Furnas County west of Edison, the eldest of three children born to Russell D. and Virginia C. (Gutherie) Paine. He received his education at Edison Public Schools and graduated from Edison High School with the class of 1952. On February 15, 1953, he was united in marriage to Nancy Barber and to this union four children were born: Randal, Donna, Michael, and Cheryl. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Don began a long career in the trucking industry. In 1958, the family moved to Edison, where Don engaged in farming on the family farm and continued to truck as well. During his years of trucking, he also served as a hog buyer for Beamer Hog out of Beamer, Nebraska and Valley Pork in McCook, Nebraska. Following retirement, Don and Nancy moved to Holdrege in the spring of 2007. Don was a member of the Oxford Evangelical Free Church. Through the years, Don and Nancy enjoyed camping, and fishing, but most of all, Don loved attending his children’s activities, and in later years his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy on July 19, 2013. Besides his parents, and his wife, Nancy; Don was preceded in death by one son, Randal Lee Paine in 2005; and two brothers: Robert and Doug Paine. Don leaves to mourn his passing; his two daughters: Donna Fisher and her husband, Dan of Arapahoe, Nebraska and Cheryl Luke and her husband, Travis of Millersburg, Indiana; one son, Mike Paine and his wife, Anne of Oxford; 10 grandchildren: 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Chopp and her husband, Fred of Seattle, Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford. A memorial has been established in Don’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
