Donald Walter McLaren, 56, former Cass County assessor, passed away at the Cass County Memorial Hospital at noon Thursday, February 21. He had been in ill health for a year and was a resident of 911 Locust. Mr. McLaren resigned earlier this year after being county assessor since 1961. He was the son of James C. and Cora E. Erickson McLaren, and was born April 13, 1917, at Massena, and graduated from the Cumberland High School in 1934. He was married to Rosemary Casey at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Massena April 14, 1941, and they have lived in Atlantic since 1954. Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Marilyn) Simon of Atlantic; four sons, Daniel J. McLaren of Bridgewater, Paul C. McLaren, Richard C. McLaren, and Charles T. McLaren, all of Atlantic; 10 grandchildren; five brothers, James E. McLaren of Cumberland, Jack, Kenneth, Robert, and Bruce McLaren, all of Massena; a sister, Mrs. Aldon (Margaret) Jensen of Urbana, Illinois; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Jensen; and a brother, Joseph McLaren.
