Description	:	Donna "Joyce" Mather, 94, of Arapahoe died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Memorial services were at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe. Private family burial of cremains will be later. She was born June 30, 1917, in Gosper County north of Holbrook to Clyde and Oma (Packwood) Vandruff. On May 31, 1941, she married James D. Mather. Private family burial of cremains will be later. She was born June 30, 1917, in Gosper County north of Holbrook to Clyde and Oma (Packwood) Vandruff. On May 31, 1941, she married James D. Mather. He preceded her in death. Survivors include her sons, Jim Mather and his wife, Mary, of Oshkosh and Steve Mather and his wife, Julee, of Kearney; daughters, Lynn Musser and her husband, Wesley, of Laurel, Md., and Jeryl Hauptman and her husband, Phil, of Lawrence, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Meridel; sister, Lois Peterson; and brothers, Wayne and Dwight Vandruff. She attended a one-room country school until eighth grade. She graduated from Arapahoe High School with the class of 1934 and went on to Kearney State Normal School. She taught school at Broadwater for two years and then in rural schools in Gosper County. She and James moved to Wichita, Kan., where he was employed. Then, she moved to Plattsmouth while her husband served in the U.S. Army Air Force. After his time in the service, he began teaching school, which led them to Franklin, Jamestown, Kan., Phillipsburg, Kan., Wymore, Dannebrog and Sunrise, Wyo., before returning to Arapahoe. She worked part time in Wagner's Supermarket and then 10 years at Becton Dickinson in Holdrege. After retiring, she became director of the Arapahoe Senior Center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Arapahoe. She enjoyed traveling and attending many events her family was participating in.
