Description	:	Donna Rae (Cornwell) Cook, "The General," 73, of Albion, Nebraska formerly of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, passed away at her home Monday, April 16, 2012. Donna was surrounded by her loving children, receiving great care from them, along with the assistance of their Asera Care Hospice "sisters," Diane Zach, Danielle Krohn and other Asera Care team members, in her final months of her long battle with breast cancer. Donna was a cancer survivor for over 22 years before a more aggressive cancer resurfaced. She remained strong in her faith and many can attest to her great sense of humor in the face of this adversity. Donna Rae, daughter of Rayburn Marcus and Leona Anna (Cook) Cornwell, was born July 15, 1938 in Albion, Nebraska. She was baptized at the Pinnacle Hill Church and attended Albion Public School, graduating in 1956. Donna was united in marriage to Wilbert John Cook on June 9, 1956 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a housewife and stay at home mother for many years during which time she was very active in her church and her community. The Cook house was always a home away from home for all the neighbor kids and many others who needed a place to stay for one reason or another. Donna taught music lessons for over 50 years, sharing her love of music with everyone she met. She enjoyed working as a medical transcriptionist at Boone County Health Center/ Boone County Community Hospital, as a secretary and receptionist at Levander Funeral Home and at St. Edward Medical Clinic as well as Hostess at the Albion Country Club. After Donna's retirement in 2004, she enjoyed finding host families for foreign exchange students, working for Caring Companions, and spending time with her family and friends. Donna was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, where she was an organist for 41 years and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion, where she was an organist for 5 years. She was also an organist at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the United Church of Christ in Albion. Donna loved entertaining at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center and Assisted Living. Her other activities included serving as a CCD teacher, officer and Altar Society member, officer and American Legion Auxiliary Post 44 member and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Donna enjoyed being very active in the Cedar Rapids Community Club, Medical Area Development, the Boone County and Eager Beaver Extension Clubs as well as being a song leader for the Happy Mixers 4-H Club. She also assisted with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and was a Brownie Leader. Her dedication and commitment to family and community earned Donna the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award. Donna always enjoyed a good laugh and loved entertaining her friends at Bridge Club and Bunco Club. She looked forward to seeing all her classmates at the Alumni events she organized for her class of 56'. Surviving Donna are: children: Cheryl (Dan) Ackerman of Panama, NE; Rod /Joe (Melissa) Cook of Sioux Falls, SD; Darla (Kevin) Mundhenke of O'Neill, NE; Jim (Dorrie) Cook of Milford, IL; Regina (Mike) Zimmer of Papillion, NE; Roxanne (Steve) Degner of Olathe, KS; grandchildren: Norah Jean Cook, Amber (Colby) Wightman, Kelsey Mundhenke, Tyler Mundhenke, Zak Ellrick, Zoe Cook, Max Cook, Phillip Zimmer, Billy Zimmer, Landon Degner, Riley Degner; great-granddaughter: Carly Rae Wightman; sister and brother-in-law LaVonne (Bob) Brachle; sister-in-law: Elizabeth Brandt; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Surviving family also includes: Seeta Rutten and family; Jay and Susie Ritterbush and family, Terry and Michelle Merten and family, special "other" granddaughter, Lily Johnson; Tan Dominico; Janeal and Jonathan Dominico; Vung Chow and family; and all the little neighbor kids and their families from Cedar Rapids, especially Donna's little "Rinky Trink" along with all the other Reeder kids and their families as well as many other special friends and classmates. Donna Rae was preceded in death by: husband, Cookie, parents, Rayburn Cornwell and Leona Cornwell Siebecker, and Millard Siebecker; father and mother-in-law, Phillip and Rose Cook; brothers-in-law: William Brandt and Ray Segura; sister-in-law: Lucille Segura; nephews: Raymond Segura and David Segura; great- nephew: Sean Michael Brandt; and special "other" grandsons; Anthony William Reeder and Toma Chick Rutten. Interment was in the St. Anthony's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on April 17, 2012
