Description	:	On Tuesday, the 20th of July, the funeral services of Miss Dora Barker were held in the Methodist churuh in Nodaway, conducted by the pastor Rev. G. A. Carlson, who preached the sermon from II. Cor. 5:1. Rev. Mr. Cardy, pastor of the Presbyterian church, assisted in the service. A very large concourse of people attended the services and the lower contributions were numerous, showing the high esteem in which Miss Barker was held by the people of the community. After the services the body was laid to rest in the Methodist Grove cemetery southeast of Nodaway. Miss Dora A. Barker was born in Crawford county, Illinois, February 18, 1863, and died at the home of her brother in Silver Creek, Nebraska, July 19, 1909, her age being 41 years, 5 months and 1 day. She moved to Vanliuren county, Iowa, in 1871 and from there to Adams county, where she spent the greater part of her life in the vicinity of Nodaway. For some, years she has had poor health and iast fall sue determined to go to Nebraska, thinking the change would benefit her. In this she was disappointed, as she gradually grew worse and for some time she lingered between life and death until finally the end came. For many months she was a constant, yet many months she was a constant, yet patient sufferer. Miss Barker was converted when quite young and died in the triumphs of a Christian faith. Almost from childhood she was a member of the Methodist church and lived a consistent life. She was faithful in all the different departments of the church. She enjoyed the Sunday school and spent much of her time during the latter part of her life in reading her bible and prayer. She leaves two brothers, other relatives and a host of friends to mourn her loss. To all who knew her her memory will be sacred. Adams County Free Press, July 28, 1909, page 2
