Description	:	Charles Ora Barker, oldest son of Christopher S. Barker and Lucretia Siniff, was born in Oblong, Illinois September 10, 1865 and passed from this life April 25th, 1944 at the age of 74 yeas, 6 months, 15 days. When he was 6 years of age, the family came to Van Buren County, Iowa. The following year, they moved near Brooks, Iowa and a year later, they located on a farm east of Nodaway, where he resided the remainder of his life. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Emily A. Kapple, March 27, 1896. To this union five daughters and one son were born, Berdice, Mable, and Serrilda at home, Mrs. Delmar Arnott of Mt. Etna, Iowa Mrs. James Robinson of Detroit, Michigan, and Sylvester Barker residing north of Nodaway. There are also two step-children, Virgil L. Kapple of Burlington, Iowa and James R. Kapple of Detroit, Michigan. to grace his joy and blessing were nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, He leaves one brother, Silas Barker of Silver Creek, Nebraska and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, a step-son and three sisters. By the tender guidance of Christian parents, he was brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church of Nodaway where he remained a faithful member. He was a devout husband and father, and an inspiration of faith toward God and righteousness toward man, to his family, and friends. He enjoyed the fellowship of his family and will be greatly missed by them and all who knew him. Adams County Free Press, May 4, 1944, page 12
