Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 from the house and at 2 o'clock from the Lutheran Church at Kramer. Rev A.F. Schrein was in charge. Burial was in the family lot in the church cemetery beside her husband and children. Dorothea Jans was born April 22, 1857 in the village of Brandekow, Meckleuburg, Germany. Early in life she was made a child of God through Holy Baptism. At the age of 11 years she emigrated to this country with her parents, arriving in Lancaster County in 1868. Her first home in the new land was on the farm where Mrs. Jans now lives. At the age of 20 she entered the estate of holy matrimony with Henry Mundt, which was solemnized March 23, 1877 by Rev. T. Haessler, first resident pastor of the Kramer Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with ten children, five sons and five daughters. Two sons and one infant daughter preceded the parents into eternity. Thirty-nine years of her married life were spent on the farm now occupied by Edward Mundt. In 1916 she retired from the farm with her husband and made Crete her home, residing these years south of the high school. Early in this year she fell and fractured her right arm. From that time she began to fail. Influenza, pneumonia, and a weakened heart contributed to her death. She reached the ripe old age of 83 years, 9 months, and 24 days. She is survived by her seven children, Mary Hackstock, Anna Grasz, Dora Meinke, Katie Renner, Louie and Edward of Crete, Henry of Polk, 24 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
