Description	:	William Jans was born April 24, 1861 in Meckalburg, Germany.He was baptized in infancy in Germany. In 1868 at the age of 7 years he came with his parents and one sister to America. On March 21, 1875 he was confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church at Kramer, Nebraska by Pastor Frank Haeshsler his church membership being in this congregation all his life. Entering into the holy estate of matrimony August 22, 1889 with Marie Orthman. His wife preceding him in death by six years. In 1868 at the age of 7 years he came with his parents and one sister to America. On March 21, 1875 he was confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church at Kramer, Nebraska by Pastor Frank Haeshsler his church membership being in this congregation all his life. Until 1913 they lived on their farm, then moving to Kramer, Nebraska, where he lived 24 years. The last eight months of his life were spent at the home of his son, where he died on Wednesday morning at 6:40 a.m., October 20, at the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 26 days, He had been in failing health since February when he suffered a stroke of paralysis, his condition became worse ten days ago, since then he was confined to his bed. This union being blessed with three children, all surviving and living in the vicinity of Kramer. Henry living on the old homestead, and Mrs. August Schultz and Mrs. Fred Knollenburg. Besides these a niece, Mrs. Fred Janssen was taken into the home of the Jans' family being left an orphan in infancy through the untimely death of her own mother and raised to womanhood through the love and kindness of the deceased. Besides the above mentioned children, he leaves to mourn his death 10 grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Mundt, Sr. of Crete. Funeral services were held at St. John Evangelical Lutheran church at Kramer last Friday, October 22. Rev. W.M. Pebler officiating. Source: The Crete News, October 28, 1937
