She was baptized in the Christian faith on November 1, 1935 by J.B. Reents and confirmed her faith April 2, 1950 at St. John Lutheran Church by John F. Streng. Doris attended rural schools in Gage County and graduated from Filley, Nebraska High School in 1953. She received a teacher’s certificate from Peru State Teachers College and taught at Hillsdale Rural School. She married Arnold L. Jurgens on January 16, 1955 at the American Lutheran Church of Filley, Nebraska by J.B. Reents. They were blessed with four children and 64 years of marriage. For 20 years, they moved around with the military including Georgia, Virginia, Kansas, Okinawa and Germany, plus Beatrice, Nebraska was home when Arnold was on hardship tours. In 1974, the family moved to the family farm acreage near Beatrice. Doris enjoyed serving and helping others, as Cub Scout Mother, Girl Scout leader and working at Beatrice Good Samaritan Center in Activities for 25 years. She helped with Red Cross, Bargain Box, and in many positions at Emmanuel Church. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Beatrice. She was also a member of Contented Gals Extension Club, Red Cross, Children’s Guild, Bargain Box and VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling and sewing and tying quilts for Lutheran Women Relief. Doris E. (Parde) Jurgens, 84, of Beatrice, Nebraska, died at her home on Monday, December 9, 2019. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Arnold of Beatrice; son, David W. (Dee) Jurgens; three daughters, Donna Jurgens, Julie Benson and Nancy (Kenneth) Huber all of Beatrice; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Kristy) Jensen, Jason (Tracey) Jensen, Christopher Huber, Brianna Benson, Hayden Jurgens and Victoria Huber; four great-grandchildren, Ciera (Preston) Kelch, Dylan Steffens, Layney Jensen and Cody Jensen; two great-great-grandchildren, Bentley and Ayden Kelch; brother, Roger (Corliss) Parde; sisters, Marian Drake and Beverly (Ron) Weiss; brother-in-law, Tom Iwand; sister-in-law, Maxine Hartwig. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Carol; parents; brothers, Edwin and Norman Parde; sister, Carolyn Iwand; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Drake, Dean Drummond and Lyle Hartwig. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Beatrice with Pastor Chuck Bentjen officiating. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery of rural Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. Thursday morning in the church basement. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with Herman and Christina Hofeling, and Darlene Evers in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. and then at the church one hour preceding the service at the church on Thursday. The family will meet and greet friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
