Read More	Centurion, Doris E. Meyer Anderson, 100, of Scotia died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at the Greeley Care Home. Doris was born Dec. 10, 1910, in the Barker neighborhood of Valley County to Thurlow S. and Julia Etta Prouty Weed. Survivors are: children, David (Carmelita) Meyer of West Richland, Wash., Faye (Peggy) Vlach of Scotia, Sharleen (Jerry) Bebernes of Boulder, Colo., Robert (Isi) Meyer of Scotia, Deanna (Delmer) Conner of Burwell and Thedora (Teddi) (Douglas) Hoyt of Loveland, Colo.; stepchildren, Beverly (Gene) McDermott, Donna (Gene) Cargill of Grand Island and Darrell (Jan) Anderson of St. Paul; 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grand-children and 18 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sorenson of Fremont and Edith Weed of Alliance; and a host of relatives and friends. Doris was the sixth child of 11 children. She had three sisters and eight brothers. On Dec. 31, 1929, she married Theodore Meyer at the minister's home in St. Paul. She and Ted had six children - David, Faye (Peggy), Sharleen, Robert, Deanna and Theodora (Teddi) - at the farmstead in Fish Creek area of Greeley County. They farmed for 40-plus years. Doris learned to cook and sew from her mother and put these talents to use in raising her children, sewing beautiful dresses from recycled fabric for their four daughters. In 1949, Doris became the cook at the Fish Creek School for the hot lunch program for 23 years and was a favorite of many of the school children. She and Ted moved to Scotia in 1971, where she was a waitress at the Scotia Cafe for several years. Ted died on Nov. 20, 1972. Doris married Morris Anderson on April 4, 1981. Morris and Doris enjoyed nine years together, attending dances, camping, fishing and enjoying each other's grandchildren. Morris died on April 22, 1990. Doris continued to follow her great-grandchildren's activities and continued to be an avid supporter of sports at North Loup-Scotia. Doris was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, belonged to the Happy Hour Extension Club and the BFFD Craft Club, and also was a 4-H leader. Doris moved to the Greeley Assisted Living in 2005, where she embroidered, crocheted and completed many craft items for friends and family. She enjoyed playing cards at social time and playing Yahtzee, and was a member of the bell choir. However, her favorite game was Scat, and she was willing to split the pot if playing one of the younger grandchildren in the end. Doris was preceded in death by her husbands, Ted and Morris; son-in-law, Millard Vlach; great-great-grandson Toposna; brothers Pearl, Franklin, Boyd, Lloyd, Keith, Kenneth and Rolland; and sisters Paula Faye Weed, Dorothy Barton and Thelma Seegrist. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Scotia, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on August 27, 2011
