Description	:	Doris (Sally) Ferne Lyle, 87, formerly of Laurel, Iowa, and more recently of 3000 Live Oak Drive, Brenham, passed away on Dec. 1, 2009 at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Brenham with her daughter at her side, holding her hand and under the care of Hospice Brazos Valley. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 at Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home, Marshalltown, Iowa. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009 at the funeral home. Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Sally was born Oct. 22, 1922 at Lanesboro, Iowa to Howard and Una Mae (Thomas) Blum (deceased). She moved to Laurel with her family in 1936. Sally graduated from Laurel High School in 1940. In 1941 Sally graduated from Central Iowa Business School and worked for an attorney in Marshalltown. On Feb. 3, 1942 Sally married Samuel D. Lyle in Lancaster, Mo. Sally worked for 10 years in the Bos Freight office in Marshalltown. In 1952 she was employed by Lennox Industries where she performed many various office positions before retiring in 1988. When health issues required extra care, Sally and husband Sam moved to Brenham, in March 2007 to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Sally was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing cards and bingo, reading, bowling and dancing with her husband. After retiring she loved to golf, fish with Sam and friends, and travel to Texas and Michigan to visit their children and grandchildren. She was a 60 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary (Laurel Unit) and served as secretary for many years; officer of the Marshall County Auxiliary; member of Laurel Ladies Club, GFWC Laurel Federated Study Club, OUR Club, Laurel United Methodist Church, Les Femmes, Card Club of Laurel, prior member and vice-president of Lennox Lennettes, former board member of Laurel Leisure Home and past member of Lincoln Valley Golf Club. Left to cherish her memory, are her son Randy H. and his fianc/e, Terry Wolf of Kenosha, Wisconsin, daughter and best friend LuAnn K. and son-in-law, Rodney Hibbs, of Brenham, and grandchildren, Nicole L. Lyle, Ludington, Mich. and Trevor D. Lyle, Kaleva, Mich., as well as her devoted Dalmatian grand-dog, "Samantha Kay," two sister-in-laws, Evelyn Blum, Haverhill/Solon, Iowa and Mildred Blum, Newton, Iowa, one brother-in-law, William James (Shorty) Lyle, Marshalltown, one step-brother, Bobby Jay, Marshalltown, eight nieces and four nephews. Sally will also be sadly missed by her special friend, Carol (Anderson) Hibbs, who was like another daughter to her. Sally was preceded in death by her husband (Samuel 10/28/09), parents (Howard 1954, Una Mae 1977), step-father (Robert Jay 1978), an infant daughter, Eleanor Kay (11/30/1956), three brothers Morris (Short), Lyle (Toad) and Max (Jim) Blum, two sister-in-laws (Sara Blum and Beulah Blum), two step brothers (Bill and Roger Jay) and one step sister, (Lucille Harding Cox).
