She was born on Feb. 4, 1932 at Houghton to Joseph W. and Louise M. Mohrfeld Menke. She married Kenneth R. Kempker on Dec. 27, 1950 at St. James Church in St. Paul. She was born on Feb. 4, 1932 at Houghton to Joseph W. and Louise M. Mohrfeld Menke. She married Kenneth R. Kempker on Dec. 27, 1950 at St. James Church in St. Paul. He preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1999. She formerly served as President of Ken's Propane Service, LTD. for 22 years, and was also a homemaker. She was a member of Ss. Mary and Joseph Church and Red Hats River Belles. She served on the first Aquinas God's Portion Day committee and helped establish a baseball concession stand at the former Aquinas High School. She volunteered for 15 years at Ss. Mary and Joseph Parish Center, where she did a lot of cooking. She loved to play golf and work with her flowers. Doris is survived by three sons, Richard (wife Kathy) Kempker, Fort Madison, Kenneth (wife Jolene) Kempker II, Hamilton, Ill., and Daniel (wife Nancy) Kempker, Donnellson; three daughters, Barbara (husband Larry) Dinwiddie, Fort Madison, Christy (husband Alvin) Holtkamp, Fort Madison, and Sandra (husband Stuart) Welding, Fort Madison; 18 grandchildren, one great-grandson; two brothers, Carl Menke, Fort Madison, and Mark Menke, Fort Madison; nine sisters, Vera Evans, Dewar, Iowa, Floreen Fuerman, West Point, Delores Bohnenkamp, West Chicago, Ill., Betty Merschman, St. Paul, Connie Conrad, St. Paul, Miriam Holtkamp, Fort Madison, Jo Ann Landers, Las Vegas, Nevada, Cathy Holtkamp, Salem, and Mary Jo Koller, Donnellson; one half-sister, Marcella Holmes, Fort Madison, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Diana Merschbrock, one granddaughter, Amy Kempker, three infant grandsons, and two brothers. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13 at Ss. Mary and Joseph Church, with a Rosary to be recited at 3 p.m., and the family will meet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m., all at Ss. Mary and Joseph Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006 at Ss. Mary and Joseph Church, with the Rev. Robert McAleer officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery in Fort Madison. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Holy Trinity Catholic Schools, and contributions may be left at King-Lynk Funeral Home or at the church during the visitation or the funeral.
