Doris Norine Madsen was born November 8, 1923, in Pocahontas County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Nels and Amy (Rassler) Madsen. She graduated from Pocahontas High School. Doris married Arthur Albrecht on February 16, 1944. The couple farmed in Pocahontas County. Arthur passed away in 1952 when he was in a farming accident. Ernst - age 91, of Pocahontas, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. Doris Norine Madsen was born November 8, 1923, in Pocahontas County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Nels and Amy (Rassler) Madsen. She graduated from Pocahontas High School. Doris married Arthur Albrecht on February 16, 1944. The couple farmed in Pocahontas County. Arthur passed away in 1952 when he was in a farming accident. Doris moved into Pocahontas where she worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell. On November 30, 1961, Doris married William Ernst in Pocahontas. The couple made their home in Pocahontas. After 21 years of service in the telephone office, Doris retired as chief operator. She then worked at the Pocahontas County Treasurer's office, retiring in the mid 1980's. William passed away in 1982 and Doris continued to make her home in Pocahontas. Doris was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, Catholic Ladies Society and was a Charter Member of the C. D. of A. She served as a hospice volunteer. In retirement, Doris enjoyed traveling on bus tours, visiting friends and trying new recipes. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working word puzzles. Survivors include her children, Kathleen (LaVerne) Berns of Manchester; Janice (Kenneth) Daniel of El Dorado Springs, MO and Mary (William) Gruver of Pocahontas; grandchildren, Steven (Leanne) Berns; David (fiancé, Barb) Berns; John (Beverly) Berns; Julie (Dan) Erskin; Jeff (Jennifer) Daniel; Jamie (Donnie) Collins; Jenny (Matthew) Watts; Ann (Kevin) Malm and Michael Gruver; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, sisters Arlene Reinders of Washington State and Lois Wilson of West Bend. Doris was preceded by her parents, her husbands, Arthur and William and a brother, Robert Madsen.
