Dorothy Wilkie was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, March 18, 1847, At the age of eight she came with her parents to America, locating in Clayton county, Iowa. On June 15, 1867, she was married to John Bartels and with her husband and two sons she moved to Seward county, taking up a homestead in 1870. Read More	***************************************************** The following information was provided by FAG contributor Kathy Monical (#49101662): The death of Mrs. Dora Bartels occurred at her home near Staplehurst March 26, 1911, after an illness of a short duration. Dorothy Wilkie was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, March 18, 1847, At the age of eight she came with her parents to America, locating in Clayton county, Iowa. On June 15, 1867, she was married to John Bartels and with her husband and two sons she moved to Seward county, taking up a homestead in 1870. On this homestead she lived until the time of her death, at which time she was 64 years and eight days old. She was a devoted Christian, having joined the German Lutheran church at the early age of fourteen. Her death was a very peaceful one, having had the continual care of her family and her many friends. She was a kind and affectionate wife, mother, sister and friend, always ready to aid her family and her many friends. She leaves to mourn her death a sorrowing husband, five sons, one son having preceded her to the Great Beyond years ago, four daughters-in-law, twelve grandchildren , three sisters, two brothers, besides an innumerable number of nieces, nephews and friends. The pallbearers were Herman Kemprad, Herman Mayer, Wm. Mayer, C. Jacobs and Wm. Bertrum. Funeral services were held from the German Lutheran church Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Koster. Interment in Staplehurst cemetery. Seward Independent Democrat, Seward, NE Thursday, April 6, 1911
