Description	:	John Henry Fred Bartels, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bartels, was born in Clayton county, Iowa, Feb. 17, 1869. In 1870 the family moved to Staplehurst, where he grew to manhood. On Feb. 14, 1892, he was united in marriage to Ida Niemann. To this union were born three children. The family spent their early years on a farm near Staplehurst. Later they moved to Delmont, So. Dak., and lived there from 1899 to 1911. Some years ago they returned to Staplehurst. Mr. and Mrs. H. Bartels celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1942. In 1870 the family moved to Staplehurst, where he grew to manhood. On Feb. 14, 1892, he was united in marriage to Ida Niemann. To this union were born three children. The family spent their early years on a farm near Staplehurst. Later they moved to Delmont, So. Dak., and lived there from 1899 to 1911. Some years ago they returned to Staplehurst. Mr. and Mrs. H. Bartels celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1942. Mrs. Bartels passed away May 31, 1949. Mr. Bartels had been in poor health for a number of years and seriously ill since Oct. 29, 1950. He lapsed into a coma Oct. 31 and passed away last Saturday, Nov. 4, 1950, at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 17 days. He leaves to mourn his death his son Walter, Lincoln; two daughters, Dora Lorensen, York, and Mrs. Christina Nehls, Ulysses; two sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; thirteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, John Bartels, Staplehurst; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 6, 1950, at 2:00 p.m., from Immanuel Lutheran church in Staplehurst, Rev. W. L. Ernstmeyer officiating. Hymns were rendered by the church choir, under the direction of Herbert Rathe. Interment was in the church cemetery. Seward Independent, Seward, NE, Wed., Nov. 8, 1950
