Atwood Dorothy Agnes Rutherford Atwood, better known to her friends and family as "Dot", was born February 19, 1899, at Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. She passed away October 8, 1980, in Geneva at the age of 81 years. One of 10 children, Dot attended school in Medicine Hat and resided there until her marriage to Sidney E. Atwood on October 11, 1922. To this union were born one son and three daughters. They came to Fairmont and made their home here until 1928, when they moved to Moorefield, Ne. Two years later they moved to a farm in Hayes county. In 1934, they moved back to Fairmont where they spent the remainder of their lives. In 1941, Dot became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Dot and Sid moved to the Fairview Manor in Fairmont where she enjoyed being with her many friends. Dot was a member of the Fairmont Community church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Mt. Moriah Chapter No. 38, Order of the Eastern Star, where she had received her 50-year pin. She will be long remembered for the many pairs of booties and mittens she knitted. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, four brothers and three sisters. Surviving are: one son, Sidney E. Jr. of York; two daughters, Mabel Isabella McMahon of Fairmont, Nellie Jean (Mrs. Harold) Martin of McCool Junction; a sister, Jean Halverson of Lethridge, Alberta, Canada; a brother Edward Rutherford of Medicine Hat., Alberta, Canada; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community church at 11 a.m., October 11, 1980. Burial was in the Fairmont Public cemetery. The Nebraska Signal October 23, 1980.
